Abattoir killers are caught on film laughing and joking as they attack cow with pipe

Time and time again we have revealed shocking scenes that dispel the 'humane slaughter' myth. We would urge anyone who feels moved by the footage to consider going plant-based.

ROD ARDEHALI: ‘Abattoir killers have been caught in an undercover sting beating cattle with pipes moments before the animals are slaughtered, prompting a major investigation. Footage recorded by animal rights activists using covert cameras shows one worker slamming a gate on the neck of a cow while taunting the frightened animals. One of the workers at PJ Hayman & Sons abattoir in Ottery St Mary, Devon, is heard baiting the cattle and asking ‘do you want some Christmas beef?’ The video shows the two workers laughing with each other while one tries to force a cow towards a grate to be stunned. But as the cow resists the worker hits it over the back and tries to push it forwards while taunting it.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) launched an investigation after anti-animal abuse organisation Animal Aid released the footage taken at the abattoir. Tor Bailey, Farming and Slaughter campaign manager at Animal Aid, said: ‘PJ Hayman & Sons is a small slaughterhouse, which some people may think is more humane, but we were deeply shocked and saddened by what we filmed there… “Time and time again we have revealed shocking scenes that dispel the ‘humane slaughter’ myth… We would urge anyone who feels moved by the footage to consider going plant-based as this is the only way to be assured of animal welfare”… The Food Standards Agency confirmed it has launched a criminal investigation into the actions of those caught on the footage’.
